Researchers Unveil AI-Powered Atomic Fabrication Technique

Singapore: Researchers at the National University of Singapore (NUS) have pioneered a groundbreaking method for crafting carbon-based quantum materials atom by atom, leveraging scanning probe microscopy and advanced deep neural networks.

This innovative approach showcases the prowess of artificial intelligence (AI) in manipulating materials at the sub-angstrom scale, offering immense potential for scientific exploration and future applications.

The team, led by Associate Professors Lu Jiong and Zhang Chun, devised the chemist-intuited atomic robotic probe (CARP) concept, integrating probe chemistry expertise with AI to fabricate and characterize open-shell magnetic nanographenes at the single-molecule level.

This enables precise engineering of their electronic and spin configurations in an automated manner, akin to human chemists.

The framework efficiently translates expert knowledge into machine-executable tasks, offering insights crucial for understanding intricate reaction mechanisms.

The team envisio
ns expanding CARP’s capabilities to encompass diverse on-surface probe chemistry reactions with scalability and efficiency, potentially revolutionizing conventional synthesis processes for practical applications.

This paradigm shift could accelerate fundamental research on quantum materials, paving the way for intelligent atomic fabrication and ushering in a new era of materials science.

BASSIL DURING A MEETING WITH FPM’S YOUTH SECTOR: IF HEZBOLLAH RETURNS TO PARTNERSHIP, WE WILL AS WELL

Free Patriotic Movement Chief, MP Gebran Bassil, said today that if Hezbollah were to return to partnership, FPM would return as well.

“Let no one think that we have regrets, and at any time the party [Hezbollah] returns to the understanding, we will return as well…The understanding gave us 15 years of stability in the country, and at a time when there was an intention to isolate the party, the understanding emerged, so we formed a partnership that led to the establishment of stability,” Bassil explained.

He added: “We lost popularity as a result of the understanding because marketing Hezbollah in the Lebanese street is difficult, especially among the youth. Despite this, we sacrificed our popularity in exchange for stability, but when we arrived at a place where the party no longer cooperated with us in partnership, we moved away. From here we say: If you return, we will return, that is, if Hezbollah returns, we will return to partnership.”

His words came during a meeting organized with the FPM’s youth
sector members entitled, “From Generation to Generation’, which was attended by senior FPM officials, cabinet ministers, and members of parliament.

Recalling FPM’s timeline of sacrifices, struggle, and achievements, Bassil addressed the young members saying: ‘We rely on you to assume responsibilities, and one of our plans is to reduce the joining age of the Movement.’

GEAGEA: SYRIA’S OBJECTION TO THE BORDER TOWERS IS DUE TO DRUG SMUGGLING MONITORING

Lebanese Forces Party Chief, Samir Geagea, considered that “the Syrian objection to the towers that Lebanon established on its border is because of their ability to monitor the Syrian regime’s drug smuggling, as it has become the most important drug dealer in the region.’

He said in an issued statement on Sunday: ‘In recent weeks, the Syrian government sent a letter of protest to Lebanon against the towers it erected on its land to control its borders and stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, goods, and prohibited materials.”

Geagea considered that Syria’s letter aims to state that these towers pose a threat to its national security, a component that does not exist at this stage amidst the presence of Iranian militias and Russian, Turkish, American, and other armies, as he explained. “So what national security is this government talking about and what Syrian sovereignty?” he wondered.

Geagea went on, “All these towers which are the subject of the Syrian government’s objection, are located on Lebanese terri
tory and Lebanon certainly has the right to establish towers on its borders to monitor and control the smuggling of contraband, weapons, prohibited materials, people, and drugs…”

He added, “Most likely, what disturbed the Syrian regime was monitoring its drug smuggling, as it has become the most important drug dealer in the region, and even in the world, and the clashes we witness daily on the Syrian-Jordanian border are the most blatant evidence of that…’

Finally, Geagea considered that the Syrian government’s objection to the towers shows that its regime is still hostile and negative towards Lebanon. “What is important is for the Lebanese, all Lebanese, to be aware of this matter, and for those who are still conspiring with the Syrian regime to stop conspiring with a defunct regime in a way that contradicts with the interests of their country,’ he underscored.
