PM follows up on updates on combating electricity theft and energy cooperation

During a recent meeting convened by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Essmat reported that efforts to tackle electricity theft have led to the recovery of around LE 1.2 billion within a month and a half. The meeting was focused on ensuring a steady supply of petroleum resources needed to operate power stations. Prime Minister Madbouly underscored the significance of such regular meetings to guarantee the continuous availability of these essential supplies, which is vital for uninterrupted electricity service for both daily and production needs. The Prime Minister also pointed out the ongoing collaborative efforts to enhance petroleum production, aimed at reducing the import bill and easing pressure on the state budget. He further confirmed that adequate funds have been allocated to secure the necessary petroleum materials, ensuring the seamless provision of services across all sectors despite geopolitical challenges. Minister Essmat also discussed the p rogress of the electrical grid interconnection between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, detailing the steps and initiatives underway to advance this project. Additionally, he shared insights from his recent participation in the BRICS Energy Ministers' meetings in Moscow, where he engaged in discussions with Russian officials to strengthen energy cooperation.
