Kuwait Pledges Strong Commitment to Human Rights During GCC Meeting in Qatar

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, underscored the country's unwavering commitment to human rights at the 17th meeting of the Heads of Government Agencies Concerned with Human Rights in GCC countries, held in Doha, Qatar. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher highlighted Kuwait's dedication to enhancing and safeguarding human rights and its intent to cooperate closely and effectively with the international community on these issues. The meeting, which took place in Doha, served as a platform to discuss various human rights topics pertinent to the GCC nations. Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher expressed gratitude towards the State of Qatar for hosting the meeting, praising their hospitality and the excellent organization of the event. She noted that the discussions at the meeting revolved around the frameworks of cooperation and joint coordination amongst GCC countries in implementing the human rights strategy for the years 2023 to 2026. Furthermore, she congratulated Qatar on its recent election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the period 2025-2027, during the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. She remarked that Qatar's re-election signifies the international community's trust in its proactive and effective approach to human rights on a local, regional, and international scale. Looking ahead, Kuwait, set to assume the presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council in December 2024, will host the next meeting of the Heads of Government Agencies Concerned with Human Rights. This tenure aligns with Kuwait's membership in the Human Rights Council for the period 2024-2026 and its presidency of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights from 2025 to 2026.
