Amman: In a significant policy amendment, the Jordanian government announced plans to provide water services to approximately 700,000 citizens residing in various housing projects across the nation. According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation issued a statement on Thursday detailing the new guidelines which mandate that existing housing projects must receive approval from the Higher Regulatory Council before the amendments can be implemented. This move comes in response to a number of requests from citizens involved in cooperative, investment, or government real estate development projects, as well as beneficiaries linked with housing associations and other official bodies or unions. The government's decision aims to alleviate the hardships faced by these citizens by facilitating access to essential water services. The Ministry highlighted that these changes followed a thorough study aimed at reducing the burden on residents benefiting from these projects. Furthermore, the Jordan Water Authority or its subsidiaries will be responsible for constructing the necessary water conveyance infrastructure within these projects at no cost to the residents. However, the ministry stipulated that water will not be supplied to these housing units until at least 10% of the buildings in the project are occupied. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving living standards and ensuring sustainable access to vital utilities for its citizens, particularly those within organized housing developments.
