Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Strikes Central Turkiye, No Casualties Reported

Sivas: An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale jolted central Turkiye on Thursday, as confirmed by the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD). According to Kuwait News Agency, the seismic activity occurred in the city of Sivas at 11:29 a.m. and had a depth of 10.57 kilometers. AFAD, in a press release, stated that there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage following the earthquake. This seismic event in Sivas follows closely on the heels of a more powerful magnitude 5.9 earthquake that struck Malatya, southeastern Turkiye, just 24 hours prior. The earlier tremor resulted in injuries to 187 individuals. The back-to-back quakes have put the region on high alert, although the immediate impacts of the latest tremor appear to be minimal.
