UK Expands Sanctions on Russian Oil Tankers Amid Energy Revenue Concerns

Kuwait city: The UK on Thursday announced a significant expansion of sanctions against the Russian oil fleet, marking the strictest measures taken thus far, according to the UK Foreign Office. According to Kuwait News Agency, the new sanctions will affect an additional 18 vessels identified as part of Russia's shadow fleet, preventing their access to UK ports and British maritime services. This decision increases the total number of sanctioned oil tankers to 43. The targeted ships are reported to have transported oil worth approximately USD 4.9 billion over the past year. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized the nation's leadership role in combating what he described as Russian President Vladimir Putin's "desperate and dangerous" efforts to maintain his energy revenues. Lammy highlighted the risks posed by the shadow fleet to coastlines across Europe and globally, stating his personal commitment to curbing the Kremlin's activities.
