Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar Killed in Accidental Clash with Israeli Military

Tel al-Sultan: Yahya Sinwar, a prominent Hamas leader, was reportedly martyred during a military confrontation in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood of the southern Gaza Strip. This incident unfolded as an Israeli military force raided a building where Sinwar and others were located, leading to an unexpected clash that resulted in his death. According to Maan News Agency, the sequence of events began when a suspicious figure was identified by a fighter from the 450th Battalion. Hours later, soldiers from a helicopter observed three individuals attempting to move between houses, with two figures covered in blankets and believed not to be Sinwar. The soldiers engaged them, causing the figures to scatter, with two entering one building and Sinwar entering another. A tank was called to the scene as the situation escalated. As the confrontation intensified, Sinwar was isolated in a building where soldiers fired a shell and threw hand grenades. Drones were deployed to survey the area, capturing footage of a masked in dividual with a wounded hand inside a room. Attempts were made to repel the drone, but soldiers responded with another shell. Upon entering the room in the morning, they confirmed the deceased was indeed Sinwar. Maariv newspaper reported that the building had been stormed by a military force from the Paratroopers Brigade, prompting the call for a tank to fire at the structure. The Israeli army acknowledged the incident, stating they were unaware of Sinwar's presence in the building prior to the encounter. The bodies of three fighters were discovered during subsequent combing operations, revealing Sinwar as one of the deceased. The newspaper further suggested that Sinwar may have been inside a tunnel containing the bodies of six Israeli prisoners before exiting, which influenced the Israeli military and Shin Bet's assessment that Sinwar was in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood. However, they were unable to determine a specific location for him. Ultimately, the Israeli army confirmed the accidental assassinatio n of Yahya Sinwar, emphasizing that it was not the result of a targeted operation but rather an unforeseen outcome of the skirmish in Rafah.
