UN Human Rights Chief Condemns Deadly Strike Near Beirut Hospital

BEIRUT: UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk has condemned an Israeli strike near the Rafik Hariri University Hospital in Beirut's densely populated Jnah neighborhood, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people, including four children, and left 60 others wounded. According to Kuwait News Agency, Turk's statement from Geneva highlighted the damage inflicted not only on the victims but also on the hospital itself, a critical medical facility in Beirut that has been treating numerous patients throughout the ongoing conflict. The strike, which occurred late Monday, has prompted Turk to call for adherence to international humanitarian law and a swift investigation into the incident. In his statement, Turk also reiterated the UN's demand for an immediate cessation of hostilities and emphasized that the protection of civilians must remain the highest priority for all parties involved.
