BRUSSELS: European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has called for an immediate truce in Gaza to facilitate humanitarian aid and ensure safe passage for internally displaced people. Borrell's statement comes in response to escalating military operations in the region. According to Kuwait News Agency, Borrell expressed his condemnation of Israeli military activities in Gaza through his X account, highlighting the severity of the situation in Northern Gaza. He described the ongoing bombardment and destruction of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) facilities as alarming. Borrell emphasized that the human suffering caused by what he termed as "manmade famine and forced displacement" is indefensible, urging for international observers and media presence in the region to ensure transparency. The Israeli occupation forces have reportedly intensified their operations in Northern Gaza, particularly targeting the Jaba lia refugee camp, which has been under siege for over two weeks. This escalation has resulted in numerous casualties, with dozens killed and injured, further complicating the already dire humanitarian conditions in the area.
