Arab League Urges Political Solution to Yemen’s Humanitarian Crisis

CAIRO: The Arab League has expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, calling for a political resolution to alleviate the situation. Ahmad Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, emphasized the urgent need for a political statement to address the crisis during a meeting with United Nations Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg. According to Kuwait News Agency, Aboul Gheit and Grundberg discussed the multifaceted challenges facing Yemen, including humanitarian, security, and political issues. Aboul Gheit reiterated his support for Grundberg's efforts to mitigate the economic tensions that have recently escalated in the region. He also voiced hope for the continuation of the current truce, despite acknowledging its fragility. The Arab League's Secretary General reaffirmed support for Yemen's legitimate government and the efforts by Riyadh to restore stability in the country. He highlighted the necessity of collective efforts to de-escalate tensions, particularly addressing the th reat posed by Houthi attacks on the Red Sea, a critical shipping route. The Arab League has aligned with the United Nations and numerous humanitarian organizations in Yemen, expressing concern over the Houthi group's actions that hinder humanitarian efforts. They have called for the immediate release of hostages held by the group.
