Gold Hits Record High amid Global Tensions

MUSCAT: Gold prices surged to a record high today, as conflicts in the Middle East and uncertainty surrounding the upcoming US election spurred demand for safe-haven assets. Spot gold traded at $2,749.82 per ounce, after hitting an all-time high of $2,750.21 earlier in the session. US gold futures also rose 0.2% to $2,764. According to Oman News Agency, the rise in gold prices reflects a broader trend of investors seeking refuge in stable assets during periods of geopolitical and economic uncertainty. The ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have heightened global tensions, prompting investors to turn to gold as a hedge against instability. Additionally, the looming US election has added to market uncertainties, further driving the demand for gold. In contrast to gold's ascent, spot silver fell 0.5% to $34.67 per ounce, following its highest level since late 2012 at $34.87 in the previous session. Other precious metals also experienced gains, with platinum rising 0.5% to $1,033.88 and palladium adding 0.3% to reach $1,078.72. These movements in the precious metals market underscore the broader trend of fluctuating investor sentiment amid the current global economic and political landscape.
