Iran Urges UN Security Council to Condemn Israeli Military Strikes

Tehran: Iran has formally requested the United Nations Security Council to convene an urgent meeting to condemn the recent Israeli military strikes on its territory. The call for international intervention comes amid escalating tensions between the two nations. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi addressed a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council. In the letter, Araqchi demanded that the Security Council take a decisive position in condemning what he described as Israeli aggression. The strikes were launched by Israel early Saturday, targeting military sites in Iran in retaliation to an Iranian missile attack on October 1, as well as attacks by Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Israeli military's offensive reportedly focused on missile manufacturing facilities, air defense missile batteries, and other Iranian air systems. Araqchi's letter highlighted that while most of the projectiles were intercepted by Iranian defense systems, the strikes resulted in damage to the targeted sites and the death of four soldiers. The Iranian Foreign Minister further emphasized that the Israeli attack represents a violation of Iran's sovereignty. He asserted Iran's right to respond to what he termed as criminal aggression, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the potential for further conflict.
