Kurdistan Democratic Party Secures Majority in Regional Parliament Elections.

Erbil: The Iraqi Kurdistan region's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Wednesday that the Kurdistan Democratic Party emerged victorious, securing the highest number of seats in the regional parliamentary elections held on October 20th. IHEC Chairman Judge Omar Ahmad emphasized during a press conference that measures were implemented to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure a secure environment. According to Kuwait News Agency, the final election results revealed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party won 39 seats. The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan followed with 23 seats, while the New Generation Movement secured 15. Other parties, including the Kurdistan Islamic Union, Helwest List, Kurdistan Justice Group, People's Front, and Gorran Movement, won varying numbers of seats, with Quota securing five seats. The chairman highlighted that political parties have a three-day period to contest the final results. Preliminary outcomes for the private and general ballots, conducte d in the governorates of Irbil, Sulaymaniyah, Dohuk, and Halabja on October 18 and 20, were also disclosed by the commission. Out of 2,899,578 registered voters, 2,087,975 participated in the voting process. The commission reported receiving approximately 160 complaints and invalidating over 200,000 votes in the sixth session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections. Overall, 14 parties and alliances competed in the elections, with 1,191 candidates vying for 95 general seats and five Quota seats.
