Abu Dhabi: In a significant move aligned with the campaign initiated by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support Lebanon, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has directed the commencement of education continuity programmes in Lebanon via the Digital School, which operates under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI). These programmes aim to support Lebanese children and schools affected by current events. According to Emirates News Agency, the Lebanon Education Continuity Project (2024-2025) is part of the UAE's comprehensive humanitarian assistance to Lebanon, which has previously included emergency aid, food, and healthcare. This new project is set to benefit 40,000 students initially, ensuring uninterrupted learning for children affected by recent disruptions. By using integrated digital platforms, the project will provide educational programmes for students and essential resources and tr aining for teachers, highlighting the UAE's commitment to education as a pivotal factor in community recovery and sustainable development. Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Secretary-General of MBRGI, stated, "The Lebanon Education Continuity Project reflects the directives of President His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support and aid the Lebanese people, enabling them to navigate the current challenges, particularly in the education sector, where a large number of children are at risk of falling behind due to their inability to attend school in this academic year." The project, overseen by the Digital School, employs smart solutions and digital content aligned with Lebanon's official curriculum. Al Gergawi emphasized the initiative's importance for Lebanese students' futures and the UAE leadership's belief in the crucial role of education in community advancement. Collaborating with various partners and authorities, the Digital School aims to support children whose education has been disrupted due to a lack of resources and infrastructure. The project offers children in displacement centres in Lebanon the chance to continue their education via digital channels that provide content access without needing an internet connection. In addition, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has instructed the provision of emergency food aid, delivered through MBRGI in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, to aid 250,000 people in Lebanon. The UAE Stands with Lebanon campaign, which began in early October 2024 under the supervision of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, has seen substantial community engagement. Participants from various nationalities and backgrounds, including Sheikhs, Ministers, dignitaries, and business leaders, have contributed to relief efforts across several UAE cities. These coordinated efforts have facilitated the delivery of essential medical supplies, food, and other critical supplies for women and children to Lebanon by air and sea shipments, aiming to support the Lebanese people during the ongoing crisis. MBRGI prioritizes investing in people, education, and knowledge dissemination, recognizing education's vital role in societal advancement. The organization has launched numerous initiatives and projects to support education in developing countries, combat illiteracy, train teachers, construct educational facilities, and offer vocational training to assist students in underprivileged communities. MBRGI also focuses on enlightening Arab youth through programmes that promote reading and knowledge acquisition, preparing the new generation for future challenges.
