Borrell expressed his concerns over the remarks on his account on X, highlighting the potential international implications. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Borrell stated his unequivocal condemnation of Smotrich's assertions that 2025 would mark the "year of annexation" of the occupied West Bank. He emphasized that such declarations undermine international law and infringe upon Palestinian rights, further endangering the prospects of achieving a two-state solution. The comments from Smotrich were made during a meeting of the "Religious Zionism" party, where he pledged that 2025 would see Israeli sovereignty extended over the West Bank.
