Beirut: Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Tuesday met with UNICEF Representative in Lebanon, Edouard Beigbeder, at the Grand Serail, alongside Acting UNICEF Director. Beigbeder, who is departing from his role, expressed gratitude to the Lebanese government for its support over the years and introduced his successor. He addressed the challenging situation in Lebanon, particularly for children, and emphasized UNICEF's ongoing efforts to enroll more children in schools. Beigbeder highlighted that education is the best path to restoring normalcy for children and reiterated UNICEF's commitment to its mission in Lebanon. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Mikati also held discussions with Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, who shared insights from his recent visit to the United States. Salam conveyed positive developments despite Lebanon's persistent challenges, noting potential support from the new U.S. administration, particularly in economic and social assistance. He emphasi zed the focus on achieving a ceasefire and Lebanon's recovery, underscoring the significance of U.S. support for Lebanon's economic and infrastructure projects. The Economy Minister further reassured that Lebanon possesses sufficient resources for the forthcoming months, despite concerns about potential blockades. He dismissed such reports as exaggerations intended to bolster Israel's negotiating position.
