Damascus: Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, said on Saturday that he looks forward to his country's return to the League of Arab States, at a time when the country's new rulers are seeking to find a foothold in the political scene in the region.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Al-Shaibani made this statement during a joint press conference in Damascus with Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki. Zaki mentioned that the League is working with member states to activate Syria's participation.
The leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, met with the Arab League delegation. This meeting emphasized the mutual interest in reinstating Syria's participation in the regional organization.
The Arab League had previously declared the importance of standing by the Syrian people, providing them with all assistance and support at this delicate stage, and respecting their will and choices. This stance underscores the League's broader commitment to fostering stability and cooperation among its member nations.
In May 2023, the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, in an emergency meeting held in Cairo, approved the return of Syria to its seat in the Arab League. This decision marked the end of a suspension that had been in place since November 2011, highlighting a significant shift in regional dynamics and the potential for renewed diplomatic engagements.
