Kataeb Party Calls on Hezbollah to Surrender Weapons and Comply with Law

Beirut: The Kataeb Party's political bureau, led by Party Leader Samy Gemayel, recently held a meeting to address the current political climate in Lebanon. Following their discussions, the bureau released a statement emphasizing the necessity for Hezbollah to disarm and adhere to legal protocols.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Kataeb Party has expressed its support for the new government's opportunity to implement its program in alignment with the Constitution and Lebanon's best interests. The party highlighted Lebanon's active participation in the Arab summit, which focuses on the region's future, and stressed the importance of safeguarding the country's sovereignty and stability in any resulting agreements.

The political bureau also praised a statement by President General Joseph Aoun to an Iranian delegation. Aoun remarked that Lebanon is weary of serving as a battleground for external conflicts and reaffirmed the country's support for the two-state solution and the Palestinian cause. The Kataeb Party views this as a positive step towards extricating Lebanon from regional turmoil, advocating for the full enforcement of state sovereignty and the disbandment of militias.

Furthermore, the bureau addressed comments by Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem, who acknowledged the state's existence and its responsibility for liberation and reconstruction. The Kataeb Party asserted that if Hezbollah is sincere in its intention to integrate into the state framework, it must demonstrate this by delivering a unifying national message and promptly relinquishing its weapons to the authorities, in compliance with the Constitution and legal requirements binding on all Lebanese citizens.
