Beirut: House Speaker, Nabih Berri, delivered a poignant message today on the occasion of the 48th commemoration of Druze leader Kamal Jumblatt's martyrdom. Berri's message paid homage to the enduring legacy of Kamal Jumblatt and his shared struggle with Walid Jumblatt for the unity of Lebanon, its Arab identity, and the rejection of Israeli occupation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Berri addressed Walid Jumblatt, the followers of the Progressive Socialist Party, and the broader community, reflecting on Kamal Jumblatt's unwavering commitment to a progressive Lebanon. He highlighted Jumblatt's advocacy for a nation characterized by civil citizenship, equality, and social justice, while opposing political sectarianism. Berri praised Jumblatt as a statesman who consistently called for adherence to the constitution and democratic principles.
Berri further elaborated on the historical alliance with Al-Mukhtara, emphasizing their mutual resistance against occupation. He recalled their joint efforts in dismantling the May 17 Agreement and ushering Lebanon into an era of Arab resistance.
Addressing the Unitarian Druze community, Berri urged them to remain steadfast in preserving their Arab and Islamic identity. He called for continued solidarity with Palestine and vigilance against adversarial schemes. Berri underscored Walid Jumblatt's pivotal role in maintaining this legacy and guiding the community through turbulent times.
