Netanyahu Informs Shin Bet Chief of His Intention to Dismiss Him This Week

Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the head of the Shin Bet internal security agency on Sunday that he would ask the government to dismiss him. "Due to the continued lack of trust, I have decided to propose to the government to terminate the tenure of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar," Netanyahu said in a statement.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Netanyahu had previously asked Bar to resign, saying that the government "waited for the Shin Bet investigations, and now it was time to hand over the keys," during a meeting held on Thursday. However, the Shin Bet chief rejected the request, stressing that he would not leave his position unless Netanyahu formally dismissed him, according to Channel 12.

The meeting ended without an agreement on the appointment of a new head of the agency.
