Beirut: General Rodolphe Haykal has officially assumed command of the Lebanese Army, marking a significant leadership transition during a period marked by regional difficulties. General Haykal expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, General Joseph Aoun, and the Council of Ministers. He emphasized the critical responsibility accompanying his new role, particularly given the complex circumstances facing the region.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, General Haykal outlined his commitment to leading the Lebanese Army, which bears the critical responsibility of maintaining the unity, sovereignty, and independence of Lebanon. He acknowledged the challenges posed by ongoing regional threats, particularly from the Israeli enemy, and the importance of the army's role in ensuring national security. The army's mission also includes the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 in collaboration with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and fortifying internal defenses against terrorism.
General Haykal addressed the troops, highlighting the necessity of collective effort among officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers to sustain the army's role as a national guarantor. He underscored the importance of adhering to national principles and maintaining an unwavering commitment to military service and duty. The General emphasized his dedication to improving conditions for military personnel, supporting their rights, and modernizing military institutions.
He also expressed a strong commitment to preserving Lebanon's independence, honoring the legacy of martyrs, and striving to meet the aspirations of the Lebanese people, particularly the younger generations.
