Beirut: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has expressed serious concerns over the potential for escalating violence following recent hostilities between Lebanon and Israel. Early reports indicate that four projectiles were launched from Lebanon into Israel near Metula at approximately 7:30 am, prompting a swift military response from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti has issued a statement emphasizing the precarious nature of the current situation. "UNIFIL remains alarmed by the possible escalation of violence," Tenenti stated, urging all involved parties to exercise caution and uphold the progress achieved in recent months. The spokesperson highlighted the risks to civilian lives and the delicate stability that has been observed, stressing that any further escalation could have severe regional consequences.
UNIFIL has called for both sides to honor their commitments to peace and stability. Tenenti reiterated the peacekeepers' presence across their positions, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining order and supporting diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict.
