Beirut: As municipal and mayoral elections continued across North Lebanon and Akkar on Sunday, voter turnout varied throughout the afternoon, with intensified security ensuring a smooth and democratic process. Minor incidents and technical complaints were quickly addressed.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, in Tripoli, calm prevailed in areas like Tal, Bab Al-Hadid, and Wadi Al-Nahleh, with turnout ranging from 10% to 29%. In Al-Qalamoun, elections proceeded peacefully with three competing lists and active participation.
Koura saw a slight drop in turnout by midday, but the process remained smooth. MPs Adib Abdel Massih and Georges Atallah praised the democratic spirit. In Batroun, turnout surged, especially in villages like Bqsmaya, Kfarhay, and Ajdabra, where competition was fierce. The district recorded the highest turnout in the North.
In Minieh-Dannieh, participation climbed in the afternoon, especially in Bakhoun and Sfireh, despite earlier scuffles. Voters waited in long lines due to the high turnout. In Zgharta, enthusiasm picked up later in the day, with fierce competition in towns like Ardeh and Rachaine.
In Akkar, turnout was strong in multiple towns such as Fnaydeq, Mishmish, and Qobaiyat. Voter engagement remained high as the electoral process unfolded under tight security and active oversight by observers and party agents.
