Beirut: The Kataeb Party's political bureau held its weekly meeting under the leadership of party head Samy Gemayel. The bureau emphasized the critical need for Lebanon's political forces to protect the nation's constitutional institutions and highlighted the severe risks associated with the presence of illegal weapons outside state control. The bureau warned that failing to address this issue could threaten national unity, incite extremism, and hinder the recovery of Lebanon's institutions.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Kataeb Party urged Lebanon's legitimate armed forces to assert control over the country's borders, ensure internal security, and enforce the rule of law across all regions and communities. The party called on Hezbollah to seize the opportunity to hand over its weapons unconditionally and participate in rebuilding Lebanon's institutions in accordance with the Constitution. This initiative aligns with the Kataeb's long-standing vision of a pluralistic state that respects human freedom and dignity through sovereign institutions.
The party stressed the necessity of completing this national project by ensuring the state's exclusive authority over all territories. Such a move would facilitate a broad national reconciliation process and foster a dialogue on developing Lebanon's political system for greater stability. The Kataeb political bureau also expressed sorrow over the recent violence in Syria, emphasizing the need to protect Lebanon from related sectarian unrest and reinforce state authority.
Additionally, the political bureau reaffirmed its stance on granting Lebanese citizens abroad the right to vote for all parliamentary seats, not just a limited number. The party urged the parliamentary subcommittee to address this issue promptly. Furthermore, on legislative matters, the Kataeb called for expedited deliberation on a draft law ensuring judicial independence, highlighting its significance in restoring international confidence and unlocking foreign aid for Lebanon's recovery.
