Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron stressed during a call with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Saturday the need to avoid a recurrence of violence and protect civilians in Syria.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, following the call, Macron stated, "The recent violent acts in Syria are a reminder of the extreme fragility of the transitional phase. Civilians must be protected. It is essential to avoid a recurrence of cycles of violence and hold those responsible for these acts accountable."
He continued by highlighting the positive developments, saying, "The ceasefire in Sweida is a positive sign. A calm dialogue must now enable the goal of unifying Syria while respecting the rights of all its citizens."
Macron further emphasized the importance of accountability, noting that "prosecutions are expected based on the report submitted by the independent commission regarding the violence on the coast."
