Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, expressed his sorrow over the passing of the great artist Ziad Rahbani, who passed away today after an exceptional artistic career that left a deep mark on our cultural conscience.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun emphasized that Ziad Rahbani was not just an artist but an integrated intellectual and cultural figure. He described Rahbani as a living conscience, a rebellious voice against injustice, and an honest mirror for those who suffered and were marginalized. Rahbani was known for writing about people's pain and playing on the strings of truth, without ambiguity.
President Aoun highlighted Rahbani's contributions through his purposeful theater and music, which combined classical, jazz, and oriental music. Rahbani's work presented a unique artistic vision, opened new windows of Lebanese cultural expression, and reached international levels, creating masterpieces.
"Ziad was a natural extension of the Rahbani family, which has given Lebanon so much beauty and dignity," President Aoun stated. He offered condolences to the Rahbani family, including Ziad's mother, Fairuz, referring to her as "our ambassador to the stars." The President expressed shared sorrow with Fairuz and the Rahbani family over this significant loss.
The President concluded by acknowledging Rahbani's distinguished works, which will remain alive in the memory of the Lebanese and Arabs, inspiring future generations. He remarked that Rahbani's art serves as an act of resistance and a stance for human dignity, hoping that his music and plays continue to be a beacon of freedom.
