Beirut: On Army Day, President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, delivered a significant address at the Ministry of Defense, underscoring the importance of exclusive military control over arms in Lebanon. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun began his address by honoring the sacrifices of Lebanese soldiers and martyrs. Aoun highlighted that every martyr, irrespective of their faith or origin, is a national asset contributing to the foundation of a sovereign and stable Lebanon.
Aoun called for an end to futile conflicts and external involvements, urging a focus on preserving Lebanon's dignity and sovereignty. He lauded the Lebanese Army for its resilience and integrity amidst economic collapse, border violations, and infiltration attempts, asserting that the army is a reflection of Lebanon's identity.
The President urged political forces to seize the opportunity to affirm the exclusive possession of arms by the Lebanese Army and security forces. He argued that this is essential for restoring international confidence in Lebanon's ability to defend its sovereignty. Aoun accused Israel of repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty and paid tribute to fallen soldiers, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain a ceasefire in southern Lebanon.
Aoun also unveiled ongoing negotiations with the United States, outlining key Lebanese demands, including cessation of Israeli hostilities, withdrawal behind recognized borders, and support for the Lebanese Army.
