Beirut: Minister of Labor, Mohammad Haidar, on Wednesday held a series of meetings at his office, starting with the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon, Dr. Dorothee Klaus, and Mustafa Said, Regional Labor Activities Advisor at the ILO's Arab States office.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, discussions during the meeting with Dr. Klaus centered on improving employment conditions for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. The talks aimed at exploring new job opportunities within the framework of Lebanese laws and legislative provisions that govern the refugees' status. Dr. Klaus acknowledged Minister Haidar's supportive stance towards Palestinian graduates accessing the labor market and enjoying their rights.
Later in the day, Minister Haidar met with a delegation from the Union of Private Educational Institutions in Lebanon, led by its General Coordinator, Father Youssef Nasr. The delegation submitted a letter highlighting demands aimed at improving conditions for teachers and workers in both public and private sectors, with a particular focus on social security contributions in private schools. The union called for the issuance of a Cabinet decree to set minimum and maximum thresholds for monthly contributions to the National Social Security Fund, aligning them with practices in other private sectors.
