Doha: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, participated this afternoon in the opening of the emergency Arab-Islamic summit held in Doha, dedicated to discussing the Israeli aggression against Qatar. The summit was attended by a number of leaders of Arab and Islamic countries.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the official Lebanese delegation to the summit includes Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Rggi, Lebanon's Ambassador to Qatar Farah Berri, Lebanon's Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ambassador Ali Halabi, Presidential Special Adviser Brigadier General Andre Rahal, Director General of Protocol and Public Relations at the Presidency Dr. Nabil Chdid, and Director of Information at the Presidency Rafic Chalala.
The session began shortly before 4:00 p.m., preceded by a commemorative photo and the entry of Arab leaders into the conference hall. Before the commemorative photo, President Aoun shook hands with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa. President Aoun also held brief meetings with King Abdullah II of Jordan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah, Bahraini Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the head of the Omani delegation to the summit, Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said.
During the meetings, the discussion focused on the situation in the region and the challenges it faces in light of the Israeli threat. In his opening speech, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, described the Israeli aggression against Qatar as "blatant, treacherous, and cowardly." He also revealed that at the time of the attack, the Hamas leadership was considering a US proposal submitted by Qatar and Egypt. He stated that if Israel had accepted the Arab Peace Initiative, "the region would have been spared countless tragedies."
President Aoun is expected to deliver Lebanon's address later, and a statement will be issued at the conclusion of the summit.
