Beirut: The Instituto Guimares Rosa - Beirut (IGR-Beirut) recently hosted the opening of the photography exhibition titled 'A Realm of My Senses - Niemeyer's Legacy Through the Lenses of Nadine Ashkar.' This event was organized by the Embassy of Brazil in cooperation with the Niemeyer Heritage Foundation Tripoli.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the exhibition features a black-and-white series by Lebanese photographer Nadine Ashkar, reimagining Oscar Niemeyer's unfinished modernist masterpiece in Tripoli. The photographs aim to evoke a dialogue between architecture and the human form. The exhibition is open to the public until October 10, 2025, and is part of the Embassy's initiative to promote Niemeyer's legacy in Lebanon. It also seeks to highlight the Rachid Karami International Fair (RKIF), which was inscribed in 2023 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This accolade marks the first of Niemeyer's works outside Brazil to receive such recognition.
The opening event was attended by over 100 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, the Director of the UNESCO Office in Beirut, Lebanese authorities, including the President of the RKIF Council, and representatives from the Brazilian community, local media, and the cultural scene.
