Menassa Engages with UK Defense Advisor on Regional and Lebanese Military Developments

Beirut: National Defense Minister Major General Michel Menassa, on Tuesday, welcomed the UK Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa, Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, to his office in Yarzeh. The meeting was attended by British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, and an accompanying delegation.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the discussions focused on recent regional developments and their potential impact on Lebanon, especially in light of the recent agreement to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The dialogue also covered the Lebanese army's strategic plan to limit weapon possession to legitimate authorities and the progress of its implementation, alongside the army's deployment strategy as per UN Resolution 1701.

Further topics included challenges faced by the military in anticipation of the UNIFIL forces' mandate conclusion in Lebanon at the end of 2026. Admiral Ahlgren reassured continued UK support for the Lebanese Army, emphasizing the importance of establishing watchtowers and observation posts along the land border during this transitional period.

In a separate engagement, Minister Menassa met with a delegation representing the families of the Abra battle martyrs, who sought justice for their deceased relatives.
