Arab League Secretary-General Emphasizes Media’s Role in Development and Justice at Arab Media Forum

Beirut: At the opening of the 21st Arab Media Forum in Beirut, H.E. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, delivered a comprehensive address highlighting the role of the media in advancing development, safeguarding truth, and confronting injustices in the Arab world, particularly focusing on the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Forum, held under the patronage of President Joseph Aoun, gathered Arab ministers, ambassadors, senior officials, alongside leading journalists and intellectuals to deliberate on the theme 'Media and Development: Partners of the Present and Allies of the Future.' Aboul Gheit began by expressing appreciation to President Joseph Aoun for his patronage and presence, underscoring the media's role as a bridge of communication between officials and citizens in the quest for comprehensive development. He also thanked Minister of Information Dr. Paul Morcos for hosting the Forum and Counselor Madi Al-Khamis, Secretary-General of the Arab Media Forum, for his partnership with the League.

Aboul Gheit emphasized that development should be a priority for Arab governments and societies, with media serving as both a tool and an objective of development. He stated, 'Media is an essential partner in development,' highlighting its influence across society through various platforms. He advocated for responsible journalism that fosters citizens' awareness and participation in national development.

Addressing regional issues, the Secretary-General condemned Israel's actions in Gaza, labeling them as a disgrace to humanity. He depicted the Palestinian people as resilient and called for a comprehensive peace initiative to end the tragedy and ensure reconstruction and Palestinians' rights.

Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the Arab League's support for Lebanon's right to the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He warned against Israel's violations that destabilize Lebanon and expressed confidence in the Lebanese people's resilience.
