Beirut: Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Fayez Rasamny, emphasized reconstruction as a government priority despite facing significant delays due to Israeli attacks, highlighting that Lebanon’s losses could surpass $11 billion. A $250 million loan from the World Bank is anticipated to kickstart the rebuilding efforts, underlining the government’s commitment to controlling all weapons and maintaining peace since the ceasefire.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Rasamny pointed out the Lebanese army’s active presence south of the Litani River, which has yielded positive outcomes. He called for criticism to be directed towards Israeli attacks targeting reconstruction efforts and assured that political disputes are not impeding the Cabinet’s operations.
The minister revealed substantial interest from major companies in operating Al-Qlayaat Airport and mentioned ongoing projects aimed at developing Beirut Port. He further assured that security at Beirut International Airport is robust, with several upgrades currently underway.
On the topic of maritime borders, Rasamny stated that Lebanon submitted maps to Cyprus in 2011 and reached UN-backed agreements to secure the best possible outcome. He also noted Lebanon’s readiness to demarcate borders with Syria, pending Syria’s preparations, and highlighted ongoing collaborations with the UN to enhance border crossings.
