Beirut Chants Dedicates This Year’s Music to Ziad Rahbani

Beirut: The organizers of Beirut Chants announced the launch of the festival's eighteenth edition during a press conference held at the Yacht Club in Beirut, attended by members of the media, artists, and friends of the festival. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Festival Founder Micheline Abi Samra opened the conference, emphasizing how the festival aims to restore Beirut's natural pulse through music. She reflected on the festival's dedication to Ziad Rahbani, an artist known for his unwavering artistic integrity and whose spirit they celebrate rather than offer a ceremonial tribute. This year's festival also coincides with the visit of the Holy Father to Lebanon, symbolizing shared living and connection beyond superficial differences. The festival's Artistic Director, Father Toufic Maatouk, outlined the program, highlighting performances by international soloists and choirs, including the 190th anniversary celebration of French composer Camille Saint-Saëns with the Oratorio de Noël. The festiv al will feature collaborations with cultural institutions and embassies, showcasing talents such as violinist Abigél Futó, pianist Costantino Catena, Quartetto di Cremona, pianist Krzysztof Ksiazek, violinist Yossif Ivanov, pianist Philippe Ivanov, violinist Leticia Moreno, pianist José de Solaun, cellist Emmanuel Graf, and pianist Teo Gheorghiu. Father Maatouk acknowledged the contributions of ensembles and artists like Saint Romanos Choir, Stephanos the Melodist Byzantine Choir, NDU Choir, Fayha Choir, Philokalia Choir, and others, alongside new collaborations with Solistes de Beyrouth. Richard Azouri, Director of Beirut Chants - Sistema, concluded the conference by expressing pride in the festival's educational arm, which nurtures emerging talent and enriches the audience's experience. The project, in collaboration with UNESCO, supports social cohesion and communities affected by conflict through music. Beirut Chants runs from November 29 to December 23, with all performances open to the public.
