Salam Advocates State Authority to Restore Trust Between Lebanon and International Allies

Beirut: The Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, welcomed Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at Dar al-Fatwa on Saturday for a private meeting that preceded a session of the Higher Islamic Sharia Council. The discussions centered on the current challenges facing Lebanon.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Prime Minister Salam underscored the significance of national principles and the unity of Lebanon in addressing the country's challenges, particularly the persistent Israeli aggression. He advocated for a diplomatic resolution by adhering to international resolutions and respecting the constitution, which he described as essential for reform and salvation.

Salam asserted, "Imposing the authority of the state is the only way to rebuild trust between Lebanon and its Arab and international environment." He emphasized the need to restore the state's sovereignty over its territory, highlighting both security and political dimensions. He expressed optimism about the improving relations with Lebanon's Arab allies and affirmed his government's commitment to its ministerial agenda, aiming to restore Lebanon's security, peace, and prosperity.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for PM Salam to update Mufti Derian on the progress concerning Islamist detainees, emphasizing the government's efforts to resolve the issue fairly and expeditiously.

Mufti Derian commended Prime Minister Salam for his leadership and diplomacy in countering Zionist aggression and his efforts to navigate Lebanon through internal and external crises. He highlighted the need for national unity and the inclusion of all Lebanese communities to strengthen the nation's foundations for the benefit of all citizens.
