Bahrain Calls for Diplomacy and Dialogue to Achieve Peace in Yemen

New york: Ambassador Nancy Abdullah Jamal, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, participated in a UN briefing on developments in Yemen. Ambassador Jamal delivered the statement of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which reiterated Bahrain's steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen, stressing the need to resolve the Yemeni crisis through dialogue and diplomacy in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. It called for prioritising wisdom and reason to help achieve lasting peace, consolidate stability, and create opportunities for development and prosperity that meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Jamal expressed the Kingdom's support of the Yemeni initiative to hold a conference in Riyadh, bringing together all southern factions to discuss fair solutions for the southern issue. The statement also commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting the conference, calling it a positive step toward ending tension, promoting dialogue, and pursuing diplomatic solutions that serve Yemen's national interests and regional security.

The statement also expressed Bahrain's support for the efforts of Hans Grundberg, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, in engaging all Yemeni parties to relaunch the political process under UN auspices. The statement of the Kingdom of Bahrain highlighted Bahrain's serious concern over worsening food insecurity in Yemen, which has reached unprecedented levels, creating urgent humanitarian needs. It stressed that delivering aid under these conditions is a humanitarian duty requiring a safe operating environment and access to those most in need.

The statement commended the dedication of humanitarian workers, including UN staff, despite increasing risks, and called for their immediate and unconditional release where applicable. The UN Security Council voted on Resolution 2812 (2026) to support freedom of navigation in the Red Sea amid threats from Houthi attacks. The Kingdom of Bahrain voted in favour, reiterating its stance on Red Sea security, condemning attacks on vessels that are vital to the global economy, and warning that such attacks threaten freedom of navigation and international trade.
