Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received His Excellency Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, at Al Gudaibiya Palace during an official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The visit marked a significant step in strengthening the longstanding ties between the two nations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the President was accompanied by Her Excellency Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, the First Lady of Pakistan, and received an official reception that included the national anthems of both countries and a 21-gun salute. His Majesty and senior Bahraini officials greeted the President and his delegation, emphasizing the importance of the relationship between Bahrain and Pakistan.
Following the formal welcome, His Majesty the King and President Zardari held a meeting to discuss the historical ties and ongoing cooperation aimed at enhancing prosperity for both nations. The leaders expressed their commitment to furthering relations in various fields. President Zardari signed the Guests' Book, showing appreciation for his visit and the opportunity to meet His Majesty the King.
The talks were followed by a speech from His Majesty, highlighting the strong and historical relations between Bahrain and Pakistan, based on mutual respect and shared interests. His Majesty praised Pakistan's support for Bahrain and the contributions of the Pakistani community to the Kingdom's development. He bestowed the Order of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa on President Zardari, recognizing his efforts and contributions to bilateral relations.
In his response, President Zardari spoke of the brotherhood shared between the two nations and emphasized the importance of unity among Muslim countries in addressing global challenges. He acknowledged the deep-rooted relationship between Pakistan and Bahrain and expressed his commitment to support Bahrain's needs.
The visit concluded with His Majesty hosting a luncheon for President Zardari and his delegation. The honour guard mission accompanying the President was led by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
