Ministry of Foreign Affairs Commends Syrian Government and SDF Agreement

Beirut: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants has expressed its approval of the agreement signed between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces in Damascus on January 18, 2026. The ministry released a statement on Thursday highlighting the significance of this agreement for regional stability.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the ministry praised the decree issued by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa that grants Syrian Kurdish citizens full national rights. This move is seen as a step towards enhancing Syria's sovereignty by limiting weapons to legitimate Syrian security institutions. The ministry believes this will help preserve Syria's territorial unity and strengthen the role of state institutions, which are crucial for safeguarding all components of the Syrian population.

The statement also emphasized Lebanon's commitment to Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Lebanon, sharing historical and fraternal ties with Syria, expressed its desire to maintain and enhance relations with Damascus in a way that benefits both nations.
