Tripoli: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam offered his condolences to the families of the victims who fell as a result of the building collapse in Tripoli’s Bab al-Tebbaneh area on Sunday, wishing the injured a speedy recovery. Salam stated that the government is ready to provide housing aid and funds to reinforce unsafe buildings.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Salam immediately instructed the head of the Higher Relief Committee and the Premiership disaster unit to coordinate relief efforts in Tripoli. He also contacted both the Ministers of Interior and Public Health to mobilize all state resources in response to the humanitarian disaster.
Salam emphasized that the government is prepared to provide temporary housing for residents of evacuated buildings and allocate the necessary funds for urgently reinforcing unsafe structures. This plan aligns with decisions taken at a Cabinet meeting held two weeks earlier. He noted that identifying at-risk buildings and assessing their danger levels remains the responsibility of local authorities.
Addressing the magnitude of the disaster, Salam urged political figures to refrain from exploiting the tragedy for political gains, emphasizing the importance of respecting the lives of the victims. He assured that his government will not evade responsibility and will continue to fulfill its duties while pursuing accountability for any negligence.
