Israel’s Supreme Court Freezes Government Ban on Foreign NGOs in Gaza and West Bank

Jerusalem: Israel's Supreme Court has temporarily frozen a government ban that affects 37 foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The court's decision, revealed in a ruling published on Friday, halts the enforcement of the ban until a final decision is made.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the ruling responds to a petition filed by the affected NGOs, which include prominent organizations such as Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and Oxfam. These groups sought to reverse the government's decision to revoke their status in Israel, arguing for the continuation of their humanitarian work in the region.

The Supreme Court's interim order does not take a position on the merits of the case but temporarily allows the NGOs to continue their operations without the threat of immediate expulsion. The legal process will continue as the court reviews the arguments presented by both the NGOs and the Israeli government.

The government's initial decision to revoke the status of these NGOs raised significant concerns among international humanitarian organizations and prompted widespread calls for a reassessment of the policy. The court's intervention provides a reprieve for the NGOs as they await a conclusive legal judgment.
