Beirut: Prime Minister, Dr. Nawaf Salam, along with Interior Minister General Ahmad Al-Hajjjar, inspected the Disaster and Crisis Management Room in Beirut Governorate. They were welcomed by Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, with the President and members of the Beirut Municipal Council also in attendance.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the visit aimed to evaluate the conditions of displaced individuals arriving in Beirut and to assess the ongoing measures implemented for their accommodation and the provision of essential needs. Officials from the Disaster Management Room provided a comprehensive briefing on the operational status of shelter centers established in several schools throughout Beirut, coordinated with the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Unit at the Grand Serail. It was noted that the centers are currently accommodating over ten thousand registered displaced persons.
The statement further highlighted the pressing need for essential supplies, stressing the importance of swift action by the relevant authorities, especially the High Relief Commission, to secure these necessities. During the inspection, Premier Salam reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining close oversight of the situation, enhancing coordination among involved entities to ensure effective management of the shelters, and supporting the displaced individuals until they can safely return to their homes.
