Beirut: The Ministry of Information, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Dawaer Foundation have launched a national campaign titled 'Together, We Stay Strong' aimed at promoting solidarity, empathy, and shared humanity in Lebanon. This initiative comes as the country grapples with increasing social pressures due to ongoing hostilities and large-scale displacement.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the campaign seeks to counter disinformation, divisive narratives, and to bolster constructive public discourse. Minister of Information Dr. Paul Morcos emphasized the critical role of the ministry in supporting this national initiative. He highlighted the ministry's commitment to fostering a media environment that unites Lebanese citizens and confronts misinformation, reflecting the society's true nature.
Dr. Morcos stated that responsible media plays a crucial role in building trust among citizens, particularly amidst the challenges posed by war and displacement. The campaign aims to provide a platform for rebuilding national dialogue based on solidarity, mutual support, and collective human values.
UNDP Resident Representative in Lebanon, Blerta Aliko, noted the pressures Lebanon faces, which extend beyond displacement, often leading to heightened tensions. She pointed out the importance of community solidarity, empathy, and compassion over fear and division. The campaign, supported by organizations on the ground, aims to reinforce these positive dynamics and unity during this critical period.
The UNDP is simultaneously engaging in on-the-ground efforts to reduce tensions in the most affected areas. This includes deploying mediators in municipalities and shelters, engaging youth in fact-checking, and mobilizing local committees to enhance dialogue and trust within communities.
The campaign supports media professionals and content creators by promoting ethical journalism and responsible communication. Rania Zaatari, President of Dawaer Foundation, stressed the importance of upholding media ethics and promoting responsible communication during these challenging times. The foundation, with UNDP's support, is equipping young journalists with skills to foster a constructive media environment that informs and connects people.
With over 1.2 million displaced individuals across Lebanon, many residing in shelters and communities with strained services, the campaign employs awareness videos, billboards, and media engagement to reach communities nationwide. Set to run for a month, it combines national visibility with local community engagement.
