Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Friday received United Nations Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza, who briefed him on the work of UN agencies in Lebanon, particularly focusing on humanitarian assistance programs for displaced people and the growing needs amid the country's difficult conditions.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, MP Fouad Makhzoumi expressed full support after meeting President Aoun for what he described as the president's efforts to protect Lebanon, restore the state's authority, and pursue direct negotiations with Israel. Makhzoumi emphasized that these negotiations should safeguard Lebanon's interests, secure stability in the south, and reinforce state sovereignty.
Makhzoumi also voiced his support for the government and its "sovereign decisions," advocating for a realistic approach that moves away from political rhetoric. He called on Israel to fully respect any agreements reached and to carry out a gradual withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
Furthermore, Makhzoumi stressed that Beirut could only regain its normal role through legitimate security authority, asserting that no authority should supersede the Lebanese state. He also described the adoption of a fair and comprehensive amnesty law as a national and humanitarian necessity.
