Beirut: The Kataeb political bureau convened under the leadership of party chief Samy Gemayel to deliberate on the current political and security landscape in Lebanon. In the aftermath of their meeting, the bureau released a statement addressing several critical issues facing the nation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Kataeb political bureau called for widespread national backing of the ongoing negotiations in Washington. These discussions are seen as pivotal for reinforcing the ceasefire, facilitating a complete Israeli withdrawal, ending persistent hostilities, ensuring the release of detainees, and enabling displaced residents to safely return to their homes. The bureau criticized Hezbollah's campaign against President Joseph Aoun and the negotiation efforts, stating it demonstrates the group's intent to maintain Lebanon as a strategic pawn for Iran, to the detriment of the southern region and its people.
The bureau also addressed the issue of displaced persons' tents along Beirut's waterfront, advocating for their removal as a measure to mitigate security concerns in the capital. The Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium has been identified as a suitable venue to accommodate displaced individuals, providing necessary daily provisions and addressing humanitarian needs.
Additionally, the Kataeb political bureau voiced alarm over the recurrence of school violence and psychological harm among teenagers in Lebanon. The bureau urged authorities to prioritize the protection and welfare of children, emphasizing the need for robust educational and social guidance in light of the country's challenging conditions. The statement called for the activation of child protection strategies, the enactment of laws to combat bullying, and the prevention of abuse.
The bureau emphasized the responsibility of families and educational institutions to seriously and responsibly address these issues, highlighting the importance of fostering safe and supportive environments for young people.
