Lebanese Cabinet Declares Official Mourning for Former Qatari Emir

Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam issued Administrative Memorandum No. 17/2026 on Sunday, declaring an official period of mourning following the passing of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. This memorandum marks the beginning of a national period of mourning, reflecting the deep respect and friendship shared between Lebanon and the late Emir.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Council of Ministers described Sheikh Hamad as "a great friend of Lebanon" and announced that flags will be flown at half-mast across all public administrations, institutions, and municipalities. Additionally, radio and television stations have been instructed to adjust their regular programming to honor the solemn occasion appropriately.

The official mourning period takes effect immediately and will continue through Wednesday, July 15, 2026. The memorandum concluded with a prayer for God Almighty to grant Sheikh Hamad His vast mercy and admit him into His vast Heavens, signifying the profound respect and condolences extended by Lebanon to Qatar during this time of mourning.
