Beirut: The media office of MP Nada Boustani announced that it had recently received an invitation from the Faraya Municipality to inaugurate the sports trail and walkway at Chabrouh Dam and make it accessible to Faraya residents and visitors. The statement expressed support for the initiative but emphasized the need to clarify certain facts to the public.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the statement highlighted that the project was initially launched as an idea in 2019 by Nada Boustani as part of a broader vision for the economic, tourism, and environmental development of the area. The necessary legal permit was secured, and investment in the dam began in 2022. The sports walkway was completed in 2024, fully funded by MP Nada Boustani and the 'La Keserwan' Association, with no official contributions.
The statement further alleged that no support was received from the Lebanese Forces or its minister, Joe Saddi, who is now overseeing the inauguration. Instead, Boustani's team faced legal challenges from the Lebanese Forces, which were resolved in their favor. The statement questioned the sudden acceptance of the project by the Lebanese Forces, asking what had changed for it to be deemed environmentally friendly now.
Boustani's statement also criticized the closure of the dam by Minister Saddi without scientific or legal justification and its sudden reopening, suggesting that political considerations may be influencing the management of public facilities. The statement condemned the attribution of the project's success to those uninvolved in its funding or implementation, stressing that such actions are rejected by the people of Keserwan-Ftouh and Lebanon.
Lastly, Boustani commended the Faraya Municipal Council members for their support but expressed disappointment in the mayor's stance. She reaffirmed her commitment to serving the people of Faraya and Keserwan-Ftouh, emphasizing the importance of truth and transparency.
