Vatican city: Pope Leo XIV has expressed his hopes for peace in Lebanon following the beatification of Patriarch Elias Hoayek. Describing Hoayek as "a man of dialogue and hope," Pope Leo highlighted his significant contributions as a leading ecclesiastical, social, and political figure, earning him the title "Father of Greater Lebanon."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Pope Leo XIV took to X to share his thoughts on the recent beatification. In his post, he noted the importance of the event, stating, "Yesterday, in Lebanon, the beatification of Elias Hoayek-Maronite Patriarch of Antioch from 1899 to 1931-was proclaimed." He emphasized Hoayek's role in promoting dialogue and hope, and expressed his wish that the intercession of the newly beatified would continue to guide Maronite believers around the world.
Pope Leo also extended his hopes for peace to the Lebanese people, stating that they remain dear to his heart. He expressed his desire that the intercession of Blessed Hoayek might bring the gift of peace to the entire Lebanese nation. The beatification has been seen as a significant event in the religious and cultural history of Lebanon, with Hoayek's legacy continuing to inspire many.
