Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Monday told UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, during a meeting with him and his accompanying delegation at Baabda Palace earlier today, that "Israel's continued destruction of homes and demolishing of villages in the areas it occupies in the south constitutes a direct violation of human rights and a blatant breach of international laws and norms. This requires international action to put an end to these violations and prevent Israel from continuing with the destructive plan it pursued in Gaza."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun also pointed out to the UN official that "Israel has also targeted religious and heritage sites, reflecting deliberate intent against both people and property, particularly since such sites are not military locations and have no armed presence."
President Aoun stressed that Lebanon, which signed the "framework formula" reached through negotiations in Washington, "is committed to implementing it, but fears that Israeli practices could undermine its effectiveness, particularly as Lebanon will not accept the continued violation of its provisions."
President Aoun reiterated that "the Israeli war has hindered progress in carrying out further reforms," noting that "the government remains committed to adopting more reforms because they were a national necessity rather than a response to international demands."
