Beirut: Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny on Wednesday was briefed by President of the Republic Joseph Aoun on the outcome of his visit to the United States, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump's directives to American airlines to resume work on the air route between Lebanon and the United States.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, talks also addressed the development of Lebanon's railway network and efforts to stimulate activity at the country's ports. The discussions aimed to enhance transportation infrastructure, which is crucial for the economic growth of Lebanon.
Separately, MP Akram Chehayeb visited President Aoun and congratulated him on his safe return from Washington. Chehayeb was briefed on Aoun's talks with U.S. officials, including discussions with President Trump.
Chehayeb emphasized the significance of Aoun's statements during the visit, affirming Lebanon's right to preserve its sovereignty and protect its territory. He highlighted the need for Israeli forces to withdraw from areas they occupy in southern Lebanon, underscoring the importance of safeguarding national unity. Chehayeb also reiterated the Lebanese Army's role in preserving and protecting national unity, while affirming that the Lebanese state must bear sole responsibility for security and that weapons must be exclusively under state control across the entire country.
