Beirut: Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem has indicated that the organization is open to a public meeting with the Syrian leadership "at a time deemed appropriate by both sides." Speaking during the observance of Arbaeen, marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, Qassem urged Lebanon's political leaders to stop making "free concessions," engage in open dialogue with the resistance, and strive to restore internal cohesion.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, Qassem questioned whether the ongoing destruction should not be a reason to cease dialogue with adversaries, accusing the United States of being complicit in this destruction, which he claims is happening under U.S. supervision and approval. He emphasized that the memorandum of understanding would eventually lead to an Israeli withdrawal, asserting that Iran had emerged victorious from recent confrontations, despite efforts by the United States and Israel to dismantle the Islamic Republic's system.
Qassem highlighted the significance of national unity, noting that Hezbollah and the Amal Movement have established a "strong barrier" against Israel and other forces attempting to create discord between the two groups. Addressing residents of southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, and Beirut, he commended their resilience, stating that their steadfastness embodies Lebanon's dignity, sovereignty, and honor.
He further stressed the importance of Lebanon-Syria cooperation, expressing hope for Syria's continued unity and stability, and that displaced Syrians would eventually return home "with dignity and honor." Qassem reiterated that there is "no objection to a public meeting between Hezbollah and the Syrian leadership at a time deemed appropriate by both sides."
Qassem stated that Hezbollah would stand against anyone aligning with what he termed the Israeli project, while reaffirming the organization's belief in "one, united Lebanon." He emphasized that Lebanon's stability is contingent on the well-being of its southern regions, and expressed Hezbollah's support for the deployment of the Lebanese Army south of the Litani River, welcoming its presence there.
